Frequently asked

Questions, answered.

A little more about the verses, the score, and why BibleGuessr exists.

Which Bible translation does BibleGuessr use?

BibleGuessr currently uses the English Standard Version (ESV) for its English verses.

Why are some verses missing or not included?

BibleGuessr uses the English Standard Version (ESV), which does not include the verses listed below in its main text. Some older translations, such as the King James Version (KJV), include them. These differences reflect the ancient manuscripts used by translators and how they evaluate differences between those manuscripts. The ESV notes these passages in footnotes, so you may notice gaps in the verse numbering.

The following verses are not included in BibleGuessr:
Matthew 12:47, 17:21, 18:11, 23:14
Mark 7:16, 9:44, 9:46, 11:26, 15:28
Luke 17:36, 23:17
John 5:4
Acts 8:37, 15:34, 24:7, 28:29
Romans 16:24

How does scoring work?

An exact reference earns 5,000 points. Otherwise, your score depends on how many verses separate your guess from the answer, with a bonus for choosing the correct book or a nearby book. Closer verses and books earn more points. BibleGuessr treats the Bible as a circle, with Revelation connecting back to Genesis, and measures distance in whichever direction is shorter.

Is BibleGuessr meant to replace reading the Bible?

No. It is a companion designed to help you slow down, notice the text, and become more familiar with where Scripture lives—then keep reading beyond the game.

What inspired BibleGuessr?

The idea began while the creator was playing GeoGuessr with friends: what if that same sense of discovery could become a better, more engaging way to read the Bible?

Why isn’t BibleGuessr free?

BibleGuessr is independently made and maintained. A subscription supports ongoing development, hosting, maintenance, and the time it takes to keep improving the experience.

Is BibleGuessr available on Android?

Not yet. BibleGuessr is available on iOS today, and an Android version is in development.

What new features are coming to BibleGuessr?

BibleGuessr is still growing. Future plans include more Bible translations and languages, Battle mode for competing with other players, and Practice mode for sharpening your skills at your own pace. These features are in development, so plans and timing may change.
